Um, the Christmas Podcast will be a little late...

Due to the fact that 3/4 of the podcast is sick, and 1/4 is having computer issues of some sort. But be sure to tune in next week to Episode 94, where Stacy will present a fascinating slide show of our weekend in LA (featuring someone Stacy insists is Joachim Phoenix, choke holds, the LA County Jail, a friendly Japanese cab driver, and a rousing round of early-morning karaoke in an unnamed hotel bar).

I know -- a slideshow on a podcast? What can I say -- she's multi-talented that way. In the meantime, allow me to leave you with a picture I took back in 2000 of one of the Åhlens' Christmas display windows in downtown Stockholm. And yes, the Christmas tree IS whirling and being lowered towards Santa's chest. Let it never be said that the Swedes don't have a sense of humor.

"No, Mr. Claus -- we expect you to die."

Happy Holidays, Everybody!

*THIS* is how I'm treated

Melanie has a surprisingly strong grip

Okay, since the Foreign Correspondent wants to talk about this

Posted on Tuesday, December 08, 2009 by Melanie

We will be discussing this weekend's trip on the show tonight, and a video podcast is forthcoming, but in the meantime here are some shots from the weekend:

The shadow of my plane on the clouds below, ringed by a rainbow. I've seen this before, and thought it was utterly cool.

The audience for "We Need A Little Christmas" -- in the lower right is the woman who took a call in the middle of the damn show, prompting Stacy to start belting "Jingle Bells" at the top of her lungs and getting the whole audience to sing along with her. Needless to say, the woman put her phone away after that.

Kathy the Foreign Correspondent, hiding her identity behind a curtain.

The skyline from Chicago as seen from the Admiral's Lounge, O'Hare Airport. Nipple-shrivelingly cold as it was, I didn't want to leave.

Holiday thoughts....
